Abate Fetel

Very widespread in modern fruit orchards. Produces a large size Calebasse-shaped fruit with firm, excellent tasting flesh, very juicy, sugary, aromatic and thin-skinned. For good, long-term storage it should be harvested in the first ten days of September. The tree is highly vigorous on Franco stock and medium-low on quince, and bears fruit predominantly on short branches. Suitable for grafting on to quince but not in chlorosis-producing soils. Good results with interstock too. Good early fruit bearing and, if pruned correctly, bears fruit regularly.
